Transportation Should Never Be a Barrier

At Thunder Bay Transportation Authority (TBTA), we believe transportation should never be a barrier to healthcare, employment, education, shopping, or staying connected to your community.

Our Mobility Manager helps residents throughout Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties understand the transportation options available to them and connects them with the services that best meet their needs.

Whether you need help using public transit for the first time, finding transportation for a medical appointment, or exploring available transportation resources, we’re here to help.

How the Mobility Manager Can Help

Personalized Trip Planning

We work one-on-one with individuals to identify the transportation option that best fits their destination, schedule, and mobility needs.

  • Local transportation
  • Out-of-county transportation
  • Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)
  • Transportation for employment
  • Wellness and community activities
  • Referrals to other providers when TBTA is not the best option

Travel Training

If you’ve never ridden public transportation before, or simply feel nervous, we’ll help you become a confident rider.

  • Learning how to schedule a ride
  • Understanding fares and policies
  • Boarding and exiting safely
  • Riding alongside a Mobility Manager until you’re comfortable traveling independently

Transportation Information & Resources

Transportation can be confusing, especially when different providers serve different areas.

  • What transportation services are available
  • Who is eligible for each service
  • Available funding or assistance programs
  • Which provider is best suited for the trip

Community Outreach & Education

TBTA partners with healthcare providers, senior centers, schools, human service agencies, and community groups to increase awareness of available transportation services.

  • Provide presentations
  • Attend health fairs and community events
  • Meet with organizations
  • Educate community partners on transportation resources
  • Promote transportation independence throughout Northeast Michigan

Building Community Partnerships

Transportation works best when organizations work together.

TBTA collaborates with healthcare providers, human service agencies, senior service organizations, local governments, community coalitions, and transportation providers throughout Michigan.

Together, we work to improve transportation access and reduce barriers for individuals across the region.
